Stiver Engineering designed key components for the 452 feet pump station tunnel at the North Clarksville Water Treatment Plant in Clarksville, Tennessee. Designs included an 87.5-inch diameter casing, thrust block and analysis for the anticipated pipe jacking loads for the tunnel. Pipe buoyancy calculations were performed along with tunnel design calculations for the tunnel run and TBM wet retrieval.
The pump station tunnel was built to install the intake pipes. As a result, the tunnel drive ended under water where a wet retrieval of the TBM was required. Stiver Engineering provided several different steel bulkhead designs and a step-by-step wet retrieval methodology for all tunnel construction phases and TBM recovery.
