Enhancing New York City’s Water Infrastructure through the Kensico-Eastview Connection Project

The Kensico-Eastview Connection (KEC) project, an essential component of New York City’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and modernize its water supply infrastructure. The KEC Project is designed to improve operational resiliency and redundancy by constructing a new tunnel that will convey water between the Kensico Reservoir and the Catskill/Delaware Ultraviolet Light Disinfection (CDUV) Facility.

The KEC project includes the construction of a new 2-mile-long, deep rock tunnel to transport water from the Kensico Reservoir to the CDUV Facility, enhancing the city’s ability to manage and treat water. This tunnel, along with new shafts, a screen chamber, and other infrastructure improvements, will ensure that New York City’s water supply remains safe and reliable for millions of residents.

Mill Creek Drainage Relief Tunnel Project in Dallas, TX

The system was designed to restrain the hydrostatic forces on the EPB TBM cutting face. Stiver Engineering provided plans for the shoring design, as well as the concrete tunnel eye where the pipe brake system would be anchored. Anchor points were designed for both the tunnel eye seal and the steel casing pipe. We also provide a design of a concrete thrust block.

Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority Raw Water Delivery System in Leander, TX

Stiver Engineering was requested to design alignment piles for the template structures of upper lake tap and lower lake tap. Stiver Engineering provided the design of 27 ft embedded 36 inch diameter alignment piles. This alignment piles were optimized to a depth just above the limestone layer which resulted in significant cost optimization while maintaining the deflection well within the spec.

Waterloo Park Project at Waller Creek in Austin, TX

Stiver Engineering provided construction engineering by designing the cut through the topsoil and limestone at the headworks facility in Waterloo Park. We also designed the cast-in-place reinforced concrete for the first section of the tunnel, the reinforced concrete and rock bolt retaining walls upstream of the intake structure, and a reinforced concrete temporary bulkhead within the tunnel.
