Description: 4. Raw Water Intake Structure The Intake Structure will include two

cylindrical T-screens, each sized for 40 MGD, for a total intake capacity of 80 MGD. The

screens will be located southeast of the Tidwell Park boat ramp and will be set to an

elevation that provides the best water quality. A minimum submergence of 0.5 x screen

diameter will be used to provide the minimum head for the screens to operate at their

design efficiency. With periodic inspection, the screens are not 4 anticipated to require a

built-in cleaning system. The intake structure will have access hatches to enable access

for cleaning. 5. Tunnels and Shafts Contract B will have the following tunnels and shafts

(Figure 2): • A Pump Station Shaft will serve as a wet well to house the pumps at the

RWPS and will be located between Clayburn Road and Pilgrim Mill Road south of

Young Deer Drive. The shaft is required to have a concrete-lined finished internal

diameter of 30 feet and its approximate excavated depth is 190 feet. • A Pump Station

Tunnel will be excavated between an Intermediate Shaft and Pump Station Shaft. The

design of the Pump Station Tunnel is based on the drill-and-blast method of tunneling.

The excavation of the Pump Station Tunnel is between 9 and 12 feet in diameter, and it is

approximately 1,300 feet long. • An Intermediate Shaft approximately 35 to 40 feet in

excavated diameter and approximately 90 feet deep will be constructed in Tidwell Park

(owned and operated by USACE). The Intermediate Shaft will be used for the

construction of the two tunnel segments and will provide future access for maintenance. •

An Intake Tunnel will be excavated between the Intermediate Shaft and Intake Structure.

The Intake Tunnel has a minimum inside nominal diameter of 7 feet and will be over 500
