-I-10 WB Texas State Line to East of Coone Gully

Stiver Engineering was engaged by Johnson Brothers Contracting to develop a comprehensive Traffic Control Plan for the I-10 Westbound widening project spanning from the Texas state line to east of Coone Gully. Our scope focused on engineering a sequenced, constructible traffic control solution for one of the region’s most significant active freight corridors.

The broader $152 million project widens 10.5 miles of I-10 from four to six lanes, adding a third lane in each direction between the Texas state line and east of Vinton, Louisiana. As part of the National Highway Freight Network, this segment carries more than 1.6 million tons of freight annually, making the management of live traffic throughout construction a critical engineering and safety priority.

Stiver Engineering developed a Traffic Control Plan that consolidated multiple construction phases into a continuous, streamlined sequence designed to minimize disruptions to active traffic flow. The plan addressed entrance and exit ramp configurations, including appropriate acceleration and deceleration lanes, designated construction access points for heavy vehicles, and well-aligned merging transitions into the mainline roadway. Safety barrier spacing and placement were engineered to meet required standards throughout the work zone.

This project reflects Stiver’s ability to deliver precise, constructible traffic control solutions for large-scale highway infrastructure, supporting safe and efficient construction execution on high-volume freight corridors.
