DC Water’s Clean Rivers Project includes construction of the Piney Branch Tunnel, an approximately 2,200-foot-long, 18-foot-diameter storage tunnel in northwest Washington, D.C., designed to capture combined sewer overflows and convey stored flows to the existing wastewater system for treatment. The project also includes associated diversion, discharge, and supporting infrastructure.
Stiver Engineering, Inc. is providing structural engineering services in support of construction activities for the Piney Branch Tunnel project. Stiver Engineering’s scope includes temporary load mitigation designs for construction equipment during various phases of the work; reinforced concrete crossing slab over existing sewer structures; blast cover systems for the shaft associated with the proposed pump station; and foundation design for the temporary cement batch silo.
Stiver Engineering’s designs are developed to accommodate the applicable construction loads while accounting for existing structures, site constraints, and the temporary construction conditions associated with the work.
